Martin Gavin

I served twenty-six years as a professional librarian and latterly as a senior manager in Canada’s ninth largest library.

I have a lifelong interest in non-fiction of all kinds, and the insatiable curiosity and research skills of the reference librarian. I’m interested in fitness and health literature, as I’m a marathoner and have also completed weight training, personal training and yoga teaching courses. In 2011, I cycled 8,500 km across Canada.

A sample of what I’ve done professionally over the years (necessarily incomplete):

• Managed children’s non-fiction and computer book collections for a population of 350,000.
• Served the information needs of thousands of clients of all ages.
• Re-negotiated leases and interpreted employment contracts.
• Written reports for politicians on a thirty-eight member board of management.
• Edited customer service manuals.
• Managed building projects, including a BC Library Association award winner.
