Personal Biography

For two decades, businesses, governments, publishers, nonprofit organizations, and individuals have relied on my editorial services. Areas of specialty are education, the environment and natural history, and social marketing — communication that transforms the way people think, feel, and act.

I’ve edited and proofread all sorts of documents: fiction and nonfiction books, reports, manuals, magazines, websites, educational policy and curriculum documents, corporate publications (including annual financial reports), ads, brochures, and cookbooks. The greatest benefit to working as an editor is acquiring knowledge of things one had no idea about before. What a joy! These are just a few of the many fascinating publications I’ve edited:

• Riding with Rilke: Reflections on Motorcycles and Books — finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Award — by English professor/Ducati aficionado Ted Bishop, about his motorcycle road trip (complete with horrific accident) to visit the Virginia Woolf archives in Texas
• ON Nature, a beautiful and thought-provoking quarterly magazine about nature and protecting it that I’ve been the copy editor of for more than a decade — a repeated winner at the National Magazine Awards
• TV celebrity chef Michael Smith’s first cookbook, Open Kitchen: A Chef’s Day at the Inn at Bay Fortune — winner of a Cuisine Canada award

One client said this in the acknowledgments in his book: “Absolutely awesome is her talent for swooping down with lightning speed on the incoherent thought and the flawed syntax.”
