In the past 30 years I’ve edited hundreds of books for a variety of Canadian publishers, including Douglas & McIntyre, Greystone Books, Harbour Publishing, New Star Books, Raincoast Books, Sono Nis Press, U of A Press and UBC Press. I specialize in the substantive and stylistic editing of trade nonfiction, especially in the areas of history, memoir, biography, travel, exploration, and current affairs. A two-time recipient of the Editors’ Association of Canada’s Tom Fairley Award for Editorial Excellence, I’ve recently edited the following books:
- Stephen R. Bown, 1494: How a Family Feud in Medieval Spain Divided the World in Half (2011) – “A well-delineated, exciting history of a particularly contentious period of international trade”: Kirkus Reviews
- Gordon Miller, Voyages: To the New World and Beyond (2011) – “Miller’s well-paced narratives reopen a lost world of navigation”: Capitol Hill Times (Seattle)
- Phyllis Serota, Painting My Life: A Memoir of Love, Art, and Transformation (2011) – “A sensitive, poignant biography in word and art”: Patricia Bovey, FRSA
- Myrna Kostash, Prodigal Daughter: A Journey to Byzantium (2010) – “A first-rate travel book on a poorly understood part of the world”: Brian Fawcett, dooneyscafe.com
- Ray Wiss, M.D., A Line in the Sand: Canadians at War in Kandahar (2010) – “A moving and personal account … Highly recommended reading!”: Bruce Cockburn, OC
